Terms & Conditions

Your responsibilities when using Aurora and how your research data may be used.

Last updated: 27 September 2026

Authorisation

By uploading data, you confirm that you are authorised to do so and that the upload complies with institutional policies, ethical guidelines and third-party rights. You are fully responsible for obtaining the required permissions and approvals before upload.

Data Anonymisation

You must fully anonymise data before uploading it. Uploaded data must contain no patient identifiers, personal data or protected health information (PHI), including names, dates of birth, medical record numbers or identifying embedded metadata.

Data Storage & Processing

Aurora stores uploaded data, generated results and account information, and runs analyses, on infrastructure in Switzerland. Cloudflare may process website traffic at edge locations outside Switzerland, as described in our Privacy Policy.

The platform is designed to align with Swiss and European data-protection standards (Swiss nDSG and GDPR).

Data Privacy

Uploaded data, generated results and account information are treated as confidential and are not made publicly available. You can access them using your unique submission ID and verified email address.

Our research team may access them to the extent reasonably necessary to operate the platform, generate results, conduct directly related research, and develop Aurora's models and services as described under Use of Data for Model Development.

Sharing with Third Parties

Aurora does not sell, rent or trade your uploaded data, generated results or account information. Models and services developed under Use of Data for Model Development may be offered commercially, but their users do not receive the data itself.

Website operations use a limited number of service providers, including edge security and, only with your explicit consent, Google Analytics. Our Privacy Policy explains these services.

Aurora may disclose information where required by law or legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Aurora, its users or the public.

Use of Data for Model Development

Academic access to Aurora is offered at academic rates under these Terms. In return, you grant Aurora a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use the data you upload, including H&E images, paired spatial and molecular data, and the results generated from them, to develop, train, validate and improve Aurora's models and services, including those offered commercially.

Your data is not made publicly available, and Aurora does not share the data itself with third parties except as described under Sharing with Third Parties. By uploading data, you confirm that you hold the rights and any consents needed for these uses, including from the patients or donors from whom the tissue was obtained.

Deleting your data removes it from Aurora's systems, but models already developed with it are not retrained or withdrawn. Deletion does not remove copies already held in backups.

Commercial access is governed by a separate written agreement. Under that agreement, Aurora does not use the customer's data to train, validate or develop its models, or adapt a model for anyone else, without the customer's written permission.

Citation Requirement

Generated results are available for non-commercial research use on condition that you cite the publication identified in the FAQ in any publication, presentation or derived work that incorporates or relies on them. Aurora may suspend further access if you do not provide this attribution.

Usage Limits

Usage quotas apply to each verified email address to ensure fair access. The upload page shows your image allowance and remaining credits; the FAQ gives the standard starting allowance.

You must use an institutional or company email address. To request additional images, use the support form. Aurora may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms or where required by law.

Not a Medical Device

Aurora is a research platform, not a medical device, and is intended exclusively for non-clinical research. It has not been cleared, approved or certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Swissmedic or any other regulatory authority. It does not comply with the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745), the U.S. Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act or any equivalent framework.

You must not use Aurora for the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, prediction, prognosis, treatment or alleviation of any disease, injury or disability, or for any other clinical decision-making. You are solely responsible for complying with the laws and regulations applicable to you and your institution.

Accuracy of Results & Site Content

Aurora generates outputs using machine-learning models. These outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, biased or misleading. Website content, including documentation, scientific descriptions, benchmarks and demos, is for information only and may contain errors, omissions or outdated information.

The platform, its developers and affiliated institutions make no express or implied representations or warranties about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, currentness or fitness for a particular purpose of any results or content.

You assume full responsibility and risk for using or relying on the platform or its outputs. You agree that the platform, its developers and affiliated institutions shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or other damages arising from that use or reliance.

Cookies

Aurora uses essential cookies for authentication, CSRF protection and login redirects. Google Analytics cookies measure website usage only with your explicit consent. You can change your choice through "Cookie Settings" in the footer at any time. Our Privacy Policy lists cookie names, purposes and lifetimes.

Communications

By using Aurora, you agree to receive service messages about your submissions, including status updates, processing notifications and result availability. These messages are necessary to operate the service. Marketing emails, newsletters and promotional content are sent only if you explicitly opt in.

Changes to These Terms

Aurora may update these Terms. This page shows the current version and its revision date.

Governing Law

Swiss law governs these Terms and their interpretation. Disputes arising from the use of Aurora are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zurich, Switzerland. If a provision is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in force.
